OBP seeks to develop a long-term, sustainable approach to piracy and other maritime crime. As issues of maritime crime continue to evolve, OBP has created three integrated programs to more specifically address the challenges related to piracy.
East Africa: The East Africa program works to develop a solution to piracy in the Indian Ocean and Horn of Africa through support to maritime stakeholders to build security capacity, create economic opportunity, and enhance MSA in the Indian Ocean.
West Africa: OBP's West Africa program is working with all relevant regional international stakeholders to help coordinate the fight against piracy and other maritime crime in the Gulf of Guinea through a sustainable and region-specific approach.
Secure Fisheries: Secure Fisheries works to address piracy by fighting IUU fishing in Somali waters. Through improved monitoring, control and surveilleance, and good governance of resources, Secure Fisheries looks to combat piracy by building a lasting solution.
