East Africa
OBP East Africa
OBP was formed in 2010 in response to the escalating piracy crisis off of the Somali coast and throughout the Western Indian Ocean Region. While incidents of piracy in this region have dropped precipitously since 2012’s peak, we continue to explore the root causes and we continue to pursue a sustainable solution to the problem., OBP seeks to bring together stakeholders from governments, industry and civil society.
OBP’s activities in East Africa include support to the implementation of the Somali Maritime Resource and Security Strategy and related capacity building projects that work towards the long term solution to piracy in the region. Additionally OBP works with the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia on addressing Somalia based piracy.
