Waste of Taxpayer Money
The School Board Majority is wasting taxpayer money. They pay their hand-picked, first-time superintendent, Dan McMinimee, $80,000 more each year than nationally recognized, 12-year Superintendent, Dr. Cindy Stevenson, whom they forced to resign.
Other examples of wasting taxpayer money:
- School Board Majority Retained Their Own Attorney And Won’t Show The Public What They Are Paying Him For
- In December of 2013 the Board Majority hired the Board their own attorney, Brad Miller, which is unprecedented. In the past the Board and the District have always used the same attorney. You can learn more about how the hiring happened here. Then the redacted invoices started to come in, so that the public couldn’t see what the attorney had been working on. This is not a standard practice for the District’s attorneys. You can see more here. And you can watch the Board discuss these redacted invoices here.
- The Board Majority hired their own public relations firm to do on demand strategic communications – here is the contract
All of these decisions add up and the money to fund them comes out of taxpayers pockets.
- $280,000 annual compensation for 3 year contract for new “Rookie” superintendent
- $90,000 contract for Board attorney, Brad Miller – Never before has the Board had its own attorney
- Outside public relations help
- $10,000 contract for communications firm, SE2
- $50,000 contract for Novitas Communications
- $850,000 – Additional dollars to the gifted and talented program contrary to Community Budget Survey Results
- Making loans to charter schools that have questionable finances and ability to pay the loans back
- $400,000 loan to Collegiate Charter School – Red Flagged on the district’s financial reports
- $250,000 loan to Mount Phoenix Charter School –Yellow Flagged on the district’s financial reports
